A few bits and pieces of Diablo III news for you this evening:

  • First up comes a new preview from Uros and the crew over at ActionTrip based on everything that has been shown this past week.
  • Mike Morhaime has been interviewed over on Eurogamer which touched on Diablo III and other Blizzard titles.
  • It seems Fallout 3 Producer doesn’t know whether he’s impressed with Diablo III or not in his latest blog update. In the blog entry he states “I must say I am disappointed that Blizzard has stayed on the conservative side in terms of design with their updates to Diablo and Starcraft. Diablo will be interesting since World of Warcraft has a lot of Diablo-like qualities. I have no doubt, however, that they will be incredibly fun, addictive and polished games. Blizzard is the top of the class when it comes to game development - nobody does it better.”

Who gives a rat’s *** about what Ashley Cheng thinks?

That studio has been responsible for many top-rated RPGs - Bioshock and Oblivion including. I will pay some attention to them if I am making games. Blizzard isn’tthe same since many of its original staff have left, but notably, the writers seem to have stayed behind. Diablo III is one chance for the ‘new’ Blizzard-Activision, without its old guard, to prove that it can carry itself.

So far, there is not enough information to judge on Diablo III. It looks too much like Titan Quest, plays too much like Titan Quest and the additional of interactive environment feels more like a technical toy to me.

(Yes, I have been taken in by Hellgate London and am slightly bitter…)

Looking at the trailers [Witch Doctor & Barbarian] I think Blizzard will make another billion. Hands down it looked wicked, and appeared to still retain an ‘easy to navigate’ system of play. I have the highest expectations that this game will more than satisfy my wait.
