BlizzCon Live on TV For Australians as well

In association with Direct TV, which is offering the service of beaming this year’s BlizzCon straight into your homes, Australia-based TV companies Foxtel, Austar and Optus are now also offering the service. People who subscribe will also receive the WoW Polar Bear Mount (with Murloc passenger), that BlizzCon attendees will be entitled to.

Through a partnership with FOXTEL’s MAINEVENT, BlizzCon 2008 will be televised LIVE for the first time ever in Australia, letting gamers watch BlizzCon who are unable to attend the convention. The Pay Per View event will deliver a minimum of eight hours of coverage from the show floor on each day of BlizzCon, including the opening ceremony, main stage presentations, exclusive interviews, demos, tournament coverage, and more.

MAINEVENT Package Includes:

  • Over 8 hours of LIVE coverage (a minimum of 16 hours in total if both days are purchased).
  • Exclusive interviews and commentary.
  • Main stage presentations including opening ceremony.
  • Select panels featuring Blizzard Entertainment developers.
  • Tournament coverage and team highlights.

BTW, is the deal for Aussies better than poor Americans having to register for 2 full years of subscription?

Well, you don’t have to register for 2 years of anything in the US, if you’re one of the 15m people who already have Direct TV. The 2 years and higher expense comes if you don’t already have that satellite TV service, but that’s what any new subscriber has to pay, under their business model. They’re giving you a satellite dish and other hardware; they need 2 years of your subscription to make a profit.

The OZ deal is certainly a hell of a lot cheaper than the $40 Direct TV is charging their existing subscribers, though. that’s a bit steep.

Well Foxtel is probably still more expensive than Direct TV anyway. You still have to be subscribed to purchase Blizzcon on Mainevent
